Groups interested in taking part in this year’s Celebrate Aberdeen parade have until the end of the week to sign up before registration closes for the 2019 event.
Open to third sector organisations, voluntary groups, social enterprises, sports groups, musicians and dancers the parade, which takes place on Saturday August 24, will see the length of Union Street taken over by the organisations and their supporters who come together to raise awareness of the huge contribution which the third sector makes to society.
Groups who have not yet signed up are urged to do so before registration closes on Friday, May 3.
This year will see an exciting diversity of participants taking part from well-known cancer and child support charities through to groups supporting a wide range of health and social issues, youth organisations, animal charities, choirs, dancers and street bands.
The first Celebrate Aberdeen parade was held in 2011 and is now part of a weekend of activities which includes the Great Aberdeen Run and the Union Street Mile races.
“Celebrate Aberdeen is all about shining a light on the vital work which third sector organisations, and the thousands of volunteers who give their time to them, do to support people right across the city and shire,” said Celebrate Aberdeen founder Morven Mackenzie. “This is a way to recognise them and to thank them for all they do.
“Over the years the range of organisations has expanded, and we are now joined by sports clubs, youth groups, musicians and entertainers who showcase the contribution which they make to the cultural diversity of the city.
“When registration closes this week, we turn our attention in earnest to encouraging our business community to come on board. We’re inviting them to support those taking part by becoming parade sponsors or by becoming involved in the Celebrate Aberdeen Awards which will be held on September 14 at TECA.
“Celebrate Aberdeen is organised and run entirely by volunteers and we are entirely dependent on external funding support to put on these events. Sponsorships begin at £300 so we would love to see business of all sizes and sectors get involved to support worthwhile charities while raising their own profile.”
