Aberdeen’s Grape & Grain has picked up another award – its second win in less than a month.
The upmarket wine bar, which opened on the city’s Thistle Street in September, was named New Operator of the Year in the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) Scotland annual awards at a glittering ceremony in Glasgow. This latest award follows on from Grape & Grain winning the Best Wine Selection category in the Molson Coors Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards.
Grape & Grain and its owner Jeanette Forbes also received a Special Commendation in Business Women Scotland’s Bar of the Year (Female Manager) category in the BWS Hospitality and Tourism Awards and it has been named as a finalist in the Bar of the Year category in the 2018 Trend Awards.
“Having been in business for less than a year, we were surprised but delighted to receive this recognition,” said Jeanette. “This is a very industry-focused award which looks at all the aspects of running a bar so even to be shortlisted was confirmation that we are meeting and exceeding the standards required. We faced strong competition from the other finalists from across Scotland so to win was fantastic.”
Grape & Grain has enjoyed remarkable success since launch. Earlier this year it was nominated as one of Scotland’s most stylish bars in the Scottish Style Awards and was the only Aberdeen venue to be featured in the Sunday Herald’s 25 Most Fabulously Fashionable Places to be Seen in Scotland.
Jeanette, a well-known city businesswomen and CEO of PCL Group, created Grape & Grain in response to being told at the start of the oil and gas downturn that the only way to survive would be through diversification.
